Six including a woman assaulted at Moreh

Imphal, February 18 : Members of the MAPI Council coming back from Moreh including a woman were assaulted to injure by some unknown persons speaking Kuki dialect.

The incident occurred at around 9 pm at a spot near the Moreh Gate no.2 on the south of the Moreh police station.

The injured members of the Council were its general secretary Thangjam Shyamananda (32) son of Angou of Huikap Mayai Leikai, secretary organization Chungkham Romeo (44) son of Ibopishak of Brahmapur Chungkham Leikai, Moirangthem Khoidumbi (50) wife of Achou of Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai, Lourembam Gunachandra (32) son of Shyamsundor of Wangkhei Tokpam and Angom Joychandra (27) son of Thonglen of Kakching Khunou.

While strongly condemning the act of the miscreants, the MAPI Council today has demanded the state government to investigate into the incident and find out whether it was done out by the cadres of the Kuki militants included in the Suspension of Operation and booking of the culprits and punish them at the earliest.

Speaking at a press conference today at the office of the MAPI Council (Manipur Peace and Integrity Council) at Palace Compound, its president, Th Manihar recalled the incdent and said that the members of the Mapi Council went there in a bus together with members of the Human Rights Initiative and members of some Meira Paibi organizations for an organizational matter on February 15 .

The incident occurred when the bus with around 20 people parking nearby the Moreh Police Station owing to the brake failure and preparing for night stay at a hotel nearby.

As the place near the hotel they are lodging was not convenient place for vehicle parking, the bus parked to a public ground of the Moreh Meetei Council which is some 700 metre away from the hotel, he told.

He also said that to find out the miscreants involved in the assault incident has been taken by the Tribal Council Moreh but any untoward incident happened arising out of the incident, the council will not take any responsible.

The president further said that they will submit a memorandum to the chief minister who is also in-charge of the home portfolio.
