2 rebels killed, arms and ammunitions seized

Imphal:AT LEAST two militants were killed on Sunday in an alleged encounter between a combined team of Manipur police commandos/troops of Assam Rifles and the militants at the foothill near the Yaralpat in Imphal East district of Manipur.

In another unrelated incident, a hand grenade was found lying near an oil pump at Shangakpham along the NH-39 where IOC depot is located this morning at around 6 am, officials said.

The killing of two militants, which the police suspects to belong to PREPAK outfit, took place late this morning at around 10.30 at the complex of a Tasar Farm located near the foothill on the eastern side of Yaratpat around 8 km away East from Imphal.

The combined force of Imphal East police commandos and troops of 28 Assam Rifles recovered two guns, one AK-56 loading with 14 live rounds, an M-16 rifles loading with eight live rounds along with a hand grenade and a set of PEK from spot where the dead bodies of the slain men are found lying.

Empty wallets containing driving licenses were recovered from the deceased militants.

Meanwhile, a hand grenade was found at an oil filling station at Shangakpham on the side of the NH-39 in Imphal at around 7.30 am today. Police suspected the bomb being planted by militants who served money to the proprietor of the oil pump.
The same was safely defused and later destroyed at an open place at Lamphel dumping ground by the personnel of the state police bomb squad.
