Meeting on project for conserving Loktak Lake at New Delhi on Feb 6

Imphal, February 5 : Giving emphasis on the conservation of the Loktak lake, the only fresh water lake in the north east India, the Planning Commission of India will hold a meeting with the top officials of the Manipur government and M/s Wetland International South Asia (WISA) to revised the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the reformation of management Action Plan on Conservation and Management of Loktak Lake.

The meeting is scheduled on February 6 at New Delhi and state chief secretary Rakesh, additional chief secretary DS Poonia, principal secretary (finance) AN Jha, principal chief conservator of forest S Singsit, chief engineer, Loktak Hydro Electric Project under the National Hydro Power Corporation, Lalmani Singh and project director, Loktak Development Authority, Ch Gojendro is leaving Imphal for participation in the meeting, official said here.

During the meeting which will be chaired by member of the planning commission of India (special plan-north East) BK Chaturvedi, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the reformation of management Action Plan on Conservation and Management of Loktak Lake prepared by the Manipur government will be presented and discussed for reformation in a more affective way as the need for it has arisen as the condition of the Lake has become worsen day by day.

Manipur government prepared a project on "Conservation and Management of Loktak Lake" with an estimated cost of Rs.25 crores and submitted to the Planning Commission of India for special consideration during the working group meeting on draft proposal of the annual plan 2009-10 between the officials of the state government and planning commission of India held in New Delhi in the middle week of January last.
