Cabinet fixes hiked pay for JNIMS Profs

Imphal, February 18 : With the State Government intent on setting up a State Government Medical College by rechristening the Jawaharal Nehru Hospital to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, the State Cabinet which met today has agreed to revise the proposed pay structure of the faculty members, so as to attract professionals from outside the State.

As per a decision taken during a Cabinet seating chaired by the Chief Minister today evening, it was agreed that to attract the best brains in the field, the pay should be Rs 1.2 lakhs per Professor for three Professors who would be needed.

Over and above this it was decided that their increment will be to the tune of three PC every year in addition to the State bearing the cost of their water supply.

Other than this the Cabinet has also decided to extend the last date for the submission for the application forms from the earlier deadline of February 12 to 20, said the source.

The Cabinet also discussed about the possibility of posting an official of the rank of a DSP to look after the security of the Governor and the Chief Minister.

The meeting also decided to rechristen the Food and Civil Supplies Department to Consumers Food Affairs and Public Distribution.

Along with this the Cabinet has also decided to bring the Weights and Measures Department under the newly christened Department, said the source.

A Bill to amend the rules of the Shree Shree Govindajee Temple Board will be introduced in the upcoming Assembly session for due amendments, said the source and added that the amendments are aimed at allowing the festivities of Umang Lais to be held under the aegis of the said Board.

The Cabinet also fixed the price for the land acquisition for the widening of the road from Thong Nambonbi to Haobam Marak, Waheng Leikai to Tera Bazar, from Keishampat to Tulihal airport as well for land acquisition to bring up the Oil Depot at Malom.
