Tablets worth lakhs seized

Imphal, March 20: In a massive drive against abusive drugs, the All Manipur Anti-Drugs Association (AMADA) has seized huge quantity of Actifed drug which has been imported without the approval of drug agents at Thangal bazaar.

Producing the seizures to media persons, the AMADA drive committee secretary, E Deveshore said that 9277 strips of Actifed drug were seized from the ASL Courier service at Thangal bazaar.

The print rate of the drug is Rs 6.40 per strip and it could be sold at Rs 30 per strip in local market, he said.

The worth of the seized drug is estimated to be Rs 2, 78,310. The drug is said to be in great demand at Moreh and in Myanmar.

He said that when the Manipur Chemists' and Druggists' Association was asked about the nature of the drug, it came to light that the drug was brought in without the approval of the agents.

It was also learnt that the supply of the drug has been stopped since 5/6 months back.

Deveshore also said that the package of the drug was addressed to Md.

Riauddin Khan of Lilong Medical Store, c/o Raghubir, Allu Gali, Imphal.

An inscription which reads "We are sending in this parcel medicine only.

It is not for sale only for NGO purpose only" has also been found.

Deveshore also informs Md.

Riauddin to report so as to bring an end to the medicine issue.
