Imphal, March 04 : Concerned over the safety of the migrant workers in Imphal following they are being targetted by unknown assailants in the last few days, the state police have started vacating the migrant workers to safety places from Tuesday.
Till the filing of this story, atleast 140 (hundred-forty) migrant workers from different parts of the state have been shifted to Dharamshala, located at Thangal Bazar, Imphal.
According to the president of the Bazaar Board, Imphal, the number of the migrant workers may increase and added that all necessary arrangement have been made, including fooding and lodging for the campers.
The president also revealed that the workers will be camping at the Dharamsala until normalcy returns and informed that the board has apprised the governor of Manipur at around 10:45 Tuesday morning during which the governor assured possible help personally for protection of the migrant workers.
On the other hand, family members of the deceased Rajkumar Choudury, who was shot death at Kwakeithel in Imphal West on Sunday, urged the concerned authority to grant permission to take the body of the deceased to their native state for the last rite which the government denied as to avoid any communal flare up.
However, negotiation was on with the concern deputy commissioner and the migrants regarding the matter till the filling of this report.
Meanwhile, the migrant workers at Dharamsala, who are mostly daily bread earners, asserted that killing the innocent people like them who are living with hand to mouth will not bring any solution to whatever the killers were seeking.
Seeking help from the state government, the migrant workers also disclosed that some of the family members of victims in the past years were yet to receive any assistance from the government of Manipur inspite of the assurance made by the government.
