Chaoba likely to replace Mohendro as MPP's candidate

Imphal, March 29: In a sudden twist of turn, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) is all set to replace its projected candidate, Prof N Mohendro by deciding to field another candidate for the ensuing Lok Sabha election in inner Manipur constituency.

The decision was reached this evening during the Core Committee meeting of the MPP held at the Kakwa Huidrom Leikai residence of the party's Legislature Wing leader, O Joy.

However, the accurate replacement for Prof Mohindro would be decided tomorrow morning at 8 during a Working Committee meeting of the party to be convened at the MPP's office here.

The party's Election Committee meeting scheduled to be held at 9am will accordingly give its approval as per the resolution of the WC meeting A four-party alliance has also been formed by the MPP, NCP, MSCP and NPP earlier to have a common candidate for the coming Lok Sabha election.

The alliance had decided to support the MPP candidate in the inner Manipur constituency.

An authority within the party, while interacting with Hueiyen Lanpao said that the alliance will be unaffected even if the MPP change its candidate.

It also said that the earlier projected candidate, Prof Mohindro will have no malice towards the party and vice versa and added that he had earlier pledged to follow the codes of the party.Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao over phone, Prof Mohindro said that party's principles are more important.

He said that his contention to contest the election is only for the welfare of the people while admitting that he is not informed of the party decision to replace him with another candidate.

Meanwhile, a highly reliable source said that former MP, Thounaojam Chaoba is the probable candidate of the MPP for the coming election in inner constituency.

It said that given his contribution towards the development of the party and his vote bank, the MPP is compelled to review the party decision in fielding a candidate after former MP Th Chaoba conveyed his willingness to contest the election.

At the same time, ex-MP Kim Gangte is also likely to contest the coming Lok Sabha election in the outer Manipur constituency in the CPI ticket.

he was reported to have discussed the matter with the CPI National Secretary, AB Bardhan.

She may file her nomination on Monday if the party okayed her candidature.

The state unit of the CPI has also reportedly begun works for fielding her as its candidate in the Outer seat.
