CM assures remaking Wino Bazar

Imphal, March  20: Chief Minister, O Ibobi today said in the House of the state Assembly that government is waiting a detail project report for re-construction of the Wino Bazar which was destroyed by an inferno on March 9 last while giving reply to a call attention motion put up jointly by opposition members Dr.

Khasim Ruivah and Morung Makunga of independent.

O Ibobi asserted that the fire service personnel at the Ukhrul district with their best effort with extended help of the Assam Rifles fought the fire and save the life of the residents of the Bazar.

He also appreciated the AR personnel for their help.

He also informed the house that all the fire service stations of the state will be strengthen two fire fighting vehicles and water storage probably a pond or a tank will also be installed.

A ministerial team had also visited the spot on the next day of the fire bunt incident and took stoke of the properties lost in the inferno and district authority has been asked to submit a detail report of the damage caused in the fire burnt incident, he added.

He said five blankets each along with rice, dal, kerosene, mustard oil etc.

have been distributed to the relief campers.

A temporary medical aid camp has also being set up at the town hall, Durga Mandir, Galaxy High school etc.

But the chief minister went on to say that due to the code of conduct for the forthcoming parliamentary elections, no much can be done which otherwise could have been.

Moving the call attention motion, Dr.

Khasim Ruivah and Morung Makunga of the opposition bench demanded the state government to give interest free loans to the victims of the Wino bazaar inferno in Ukhrul district.

They also expressed their willingness to conduct a special enquiry to find out if there were any suspected hands behind the inferno that razed the biggest and oldest Bazar of the district into ground leaving only the residue.

They also lamented the inadequate fire fighting vehicles and equipment in the only fire station of the district and demanded that sufficient fire fighting vehicles with water reservoirs be put up in all the hill districts.

The members also said that the fire in the area was the second of its kind the first being about a decade ago and added that as per unofficial sources properties worth Rs.30 crores were lost including over 50 (fifty) houses and equal number of shops besides an AirTel tower and BSNL cable line.
