Womenfolk rescue 2 men

Imphal, January 19: SHOWING THE real courage of Meetei women, local womenfolk of Waikhong, Thoubal District have rescued two men from a team of Thoubal district police commandos.

The incident took place around 2.30 pm today at a village of Anal Maring under the Waikhong Police Station, Thoubal.

Both the rescued men identified as Salam Neta (38) and Heishnam Basanta (41) of Tokpaching Bamon Leikai are said to be daily wage earners.

They were arrested by the team of Thoubal district police commandos while the victims were working.

Neta and Basanta were blindfolded and put on the vehicle of the commandos, and later they were taken to a road leading to Wangoo.

Some women, who smelt foul of the behaviour of the commandos, followed the commandos in a jeep.

On hearing the sound of few rounds of firing, the group of women headed towards the place where the commandos were beating up and torturing Neta and Basanta.

The women tried to approach the spot despite intimidation of the commandos to shoot at them.

Later the commandos gave in and handed over both men to the Waikhong Police Station.

They were later released by the police.
