State Police demands Rs 50.52 cr for infrastructure

Imphal, January 20 : MANIPUR POLICE department proposed Rs 50.52 crores for development of police infrastructures under the Central Special Plan Assistant, SPA during the financial year 2009-10 which the state proposed Rs 2425.95 crores to the Planning Commission of India.

Officials source said out of the proposed amount of Rs 50, 52,35,976, it included Rs one crores for the implementation of the highway patrolling scheme in the state and Rs 49,52,35,976 for the development of the infrastructures of police and stations and others like the construction of buildings and complexes of the women police commandos, women police stations in all district of the state and development of training centre of the police commandos.

Manipur government has been urging the Centre for early sanction on the setting up of highway patrolling force in the state considering the repeated and frequent disturbances to the highways which are the only main routes connecting the state with other parts of the country.

Currently also freight trucks, oil tankers and bullet tankers ferrying essential commodities on the NH-39 are plying with security escorts.

The proposed work proragmme to be taken up under National Highway Patrolling Scheme for the Annual plan 2009-10 includes construction of compound fencing with steel gate and construction of sentry tower at Molnoi and Saivon Lamkhai along the Indo-Myanmar section of the NH-39 .

Other works programmes which are to be taken under the SPA, 2009-10 includes construction of all women police stations, women commando units and women police reserved lines.

The department is proposing Rs.12,54,9,334 for the construction of police stations and compound fencing at the Senapati district police headquarter, construction of administrative buildings for the Manipur Rifles and Indian Reserved Battalion at Jiribam at two locations and near the proposed training centre there with an estimated cost of Rs 45,00,000 .

The proposal also included development of infrastructures of the 1st and 2nd Manipur Rifles at Imphal, 7th MR at Khabeisoi, 2nd IR battalion headquarter at Naranseina, development of Manipur Police Training School at Pangei, Lamlai police station, construction of Imphal east district police headquarters, construction of rehabilitation centre at Jiribam and construction of training centre at Jiribam.

The proposal of the state police department for the year 2008-09 is above the Union ministry of home affairs' approval of a total funds of Rs.5,34,36,000 for construction works under the scheme for modernization of the state police forces, 2008-09 .

Mention may be made that MHA had approved schemes like the construction of compound wall fencing for an area of 103 acres in the third phase at an estimated cost of Rs.60,00,000 and one administrative block for training at an estimated cost of Rs.10,00,000 at Jiribam and construction of quarters of reserve lines in all the district police headquarter across the nine districts of the state recently.
