Cancel land allotment to Assam Rifles: JAC

Imphal, January 19 : A public meeting held today at Khongjom Girls UJB School ground has resolved to launch various forms of agitation from January 23 if the land allotment order given to Assam Rifles by the State Government for locating 34 AR Battalion over an area of 144 acres at Phundrei Maning Ching is not cancelled by January 22 .

The public meeting attended by leaders of different civil organisations was organised under the aegis of the JAC Against Occupation of Phundrei Maning Ching (Chingjao Ching) for Installation of AR by Government of Manipur, Khongjom Circle.

The meeting also made strong objection against opening any security post/battalion in the historically important Khongjom area comprising of Kheba hills, Langathel hills and Phundrei hills.

Other resolutions of the meeting include urging upon the State Government to develop Khongjom War Memorial Complex in a grander and more remarkable manner.

Apprising the Union Ministry of Home Affairs about the alleged allotment of Phundrei hills to AR in stealthy manner by the State Government and the historical importance of the area was another resolution of the meeting.

Taking part in the meeting, leaders of AMUCO, HERICOUN, NIPCO and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba manipur also decried the Government initiative to station Assam Rifles at Phundrei hills.
