Pradip surprises again, bags bronze at National contest

Imphal, January 19: KHUNDRAKPAM Pradipkumar, an HIV positive body builder from the state, who has the muscle to fight this affliction has again created history by winning a bronze medal in the 9th All India Inter State Body Building Championship in 55 kg in Kerala tonight.

Altogether, 15 body builders from across the country competed for the title in the contest which began on January 16.However, only six of them were selected for the final round which was held at the Corporation Stadium at Trichur tonight.

Even though, the first and the second position titles went to Amal P Surendar of Kerala and Nithin Mhatre of Maharashtra, a person living with HIV from the state managed to bag the third position springing surprises to all.

Many Keralites who watched the show soon after the competition presented bouquets to the beaming Pradipkumar for his wonderful body, a Keralite scribe told this reporter over telephone tonight.

Pradipkumar, a resident of Tera Khamnam Leirak in Imphal west district had started displaying his abilities by winning Mr Manipur contest in the 60-kg category in December 2007 .

Later he bagged the fourth and the sixth positions in the All India Inter State Body Building Championship held at Aurangabad in Maharashtra and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.

In a brief chat with this scribe, the Brand Ambassador of Manipur State AIDS Control Society, Pradip said, "I would have been happier if I had won the first position." All the same, Pradip expressed happiness over phone and wanted to give credit of the improvement in his performance to his coach, as well as hisclose friend Momotomba, a prominent body builder.

A total of 13 body builders represented Manipur in the national competition which will conclude tonight by choosing a new Mr India, which is eagerly awaited.
