ZYF condemns looting

Imphal, April 12: The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Nungba Zone in a press statement issued by its chairman, Lumthai Gonmei strongly condemned the looting of various items from the passengers of a Marhal Jeep on April 10 at Joujangtek village by a combined team of KNO, KNF-MC and KNF-Zougam stationed at Joujangtek.

ZYF also condemned the continuous extortion, looting and harassment meted out to the travelers/passengers belonging to Zeliangrong (Kabui) community traveling on Old Cachar Road at Joujangtek Kuki Village by the cadres of Kuki Underground Organizations.

These groups also regularly extort cash and kind from the Zeliangrong villages neighboring Joujangtek Kuki Village.

The above UG cadres also demanded one Cow big enough to feed 70 cadres of the UG organizations from the Chairman of Nungsai Kabui Village said the statement.

ZYF demanded immediate return of the materials looted from the Zeliangrong passengers today at Joujangtek village and demanded immediate cessation of collection of illegal tax, looting, extortion and harassing passengers and public to maintain cordial relation between the Zeliangrong-Naga and Kuki communities.

ZYF appealed to the concerned state authorities to reign into the above mentioned underground organizations who are signatory to Suspension of Operation (SoO) immediately and also demanded immediate opening of Security Post at Joujangtek village and enforce the rule of law and security along Old Cachar Road.

The state government will be responsible for any untoward incident arising out of the above mentioned incidents.

Lastly, ZYF appealed to all the civil organizations including UCM, AMSU, AMUCO, Kuki Inpi Kuki Students Organizations, Kuki Human Right Organizations etc to intervene and help maintain peaceful co-existence between the two communities.
