Diaspora studies current situation

Imphal, Jan 11 : Taking part in a seminar held at RIMS Jubilee Hall today, marchers of Manipur Levy 2008 belonging to Manipuri diaspora studied the current conflict situation of Manipur and its associated problems.

The seminar held on the topic "HIV/AIDS, Human Rights and Social Psychology in the Conflict Situation of Manipur" was participated by many resource persons.

The morning session of the seminar was graced by Health Minister Ph Parijat as organising committee chairman of the Historic Peace March of Manipuri Diaspora O Churamani and MACS Project Director Dr Pramod, Gulapi and RK Ranendrajit as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Parijat observed that Manipuris migrated and settled outside Manipur in different periods of history as a continuing culture.

But after regaining independence from Burma (Awa), the culture of emigration and seeking settlement outside Manipur almost ceased.

The Minister further asserted that it's time for the all the Manipuri diaspora settling in different parts of the world including Indian States to look back to their roots and build up unity amongst all Manipuris irrespective of their place of settlement.

Other speakers also advocated unity among the Manipuris in the backdrop of various problems plaguing Manipur at present.

In order to bring peace in Manipur, it would be imperative for all Manipuris settling in different parts of the world to shoulder collective responsibility.

The peace marchers belonging to Manipuri diaspora were later treated with a cultural and musical programme at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in the night.

Shumang Leelas will also be staged by the artistes of the Manipur Shumang Leela Council at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen tomorrow afternoon, specially for the peace marchers.
