The Manipur Cabinet has decided to ban sale of cigarettes and all
tobacco products in Manipur. The government is to issue a notification
in this regard. In the past, the government had banned smoking at public
places.
However, the order was never enforced. Manipur records the second
highest number of persons who are hooked to smoking and tobacco in the
NE region.
