Imphal, March 9 : Owing to the increasing illegal taxes while transporting on the highways resulting in spending huge expenditure, pharmaceutical companies intimated that they were will stop supplying life saving drugs, informed the Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association today.
Speaking at a press conference held at Hotel Nirmala today, general secretary of the body Dr RK Ratankumar revealed that the carrier charge of life saving drugs in only Rs 2.50 per Kg while distributing in anywhere in the country by the companies.
But for the state of Manipur and other north eastern state, the distributing from Guhawati and while procuring it upto Imphal with at the rate of Rs 2.50 per Kg.
But while procuring the same, it spend from Rs 6.50 to Rs 7 per Kg which is must excess.
In such conditions authorities of the companies have informed the Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association that they could not bear the expenses.
Hence they would stop supplying the drugs to Manipur, the secretary informed the media.
Apart from this, due to extortion demands from various underground elements, the association is facing various difficulties in procuring and supplying the life saving drugs, he said adding that such problems are not faced in the state of Nagaland and Tripura where there is insurgency problem.
Joint secretary of the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists, North East, K Sagar said that all the state level chemist and druggists bodies are affiliated to the AIOCD and under the initiative of the body many health camps conducted but in the state due to the disturbances meted by various underground elements, this could not be carry out in the state.
Drivers of vehicles ferrying drugs under the AMCDA were taken into custody frequently by the underground elements for ransom apart from collecting various illegal taxes, he observed expressing that if authority fails to check such disturbance, the state would face scarcity of life saving drugs.
Vice president of the AISCD, NE Zone, also said that regarding the grievances facing in procuring the life saving drugs, the body had submitted a memorandum to the Central government for appropriate action.
But so far no action taken up, he sad blaming that the authority do not take the matter seriously.

Imphal Riding Club tallied 36 points to be the overall team champions and Manipur Police SC finished runners-up with 16 points. In the senior show jumping individual event, Th. Gautam Singh of Imphal Riding Club, along with his horse, Mage Maru, won the gold, while T. Pradeep Kumar Singh of Manipur Police Sports Club with his horse Jack claimed the silver. L. Thomson Singh of Meiraba Polo Club and his horse Kabrang won the bronze. Imphal, March 7 : Cosmopolitan Youth Club defeated SAI RC 4-0 in the league round of the 11th Kanti Mukherjee Invitation Hockey Tournament 2008-09 played at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium today.
Cosmopolitan Youth Club had no difficulty in taming SAI RC. Cosmopolitan Youth Club found its opening goal in the 32nd minute of play through A.K. Raju Singh to take the lead in the first half.
Resuming in the second half, the Cosmopolitan men got their second goal in the 49th minute as Raju Singh scored again.
The Cosmopolitan team scored its third goal from L. Herojit Singh and P. Jupiter Singh scored his team’s fourth goal to wrap up three points from the comfortable win.

Manipur, Vietnam sign four MoUs at business summit
IMPHAL, Mar 7 : The ASEAN North East India Investment and Trade Opportunities Summit was held at Vietnam and four numbers of MOUs were signed between Vietnam and Manipur in the field of food processing industries, IT sector and bamboo and handicraft items. However, any ministry of the state did not represent the state at the summit.
In this regard a press conference was held today and the managing director of Advance Multi Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (AMT) Thoidingjam Baleshore, who was also part of the summit said that the summit was held at Vietnam from February 12-14, 2009 and was successfully conducted with the signing of 17 numbers of MOUs between India and Vietnam.
N Joykumar Singh represented the Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited (MFICL) and the Manipur Electronics Development Corporation Limited (MANITRON) and signed two numbers of MOUs with its Vietnam counterpart.
He also mentioned that at the summit the entire north east regions ministers were present except for ministers from Manipur. He felt that if the state`s ministers had been part of the summit it would have been very beneficial for the Manipuri businesses.
Manipur, which can be a gateway to the South East Asian businesses could be better off if the state government and Central government give some emphasis on this matter, he said.
The summit was also attended by Kh Debabrata of Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai and Marung and Sons of Chandel district who signed with its Vietnam counterparts MoUs in respect of bamboo technology and handicrafts, toy manufacturing etc.
Lal T Mauna, Indian ambassador for Vietnam, Jarnail, secretary to the ministry of DoNER, government of India, Jitendra Nath Mishra, consul general of India in Ho Chi Minh City, DS Poonia, additional chief secretary (planning), government of Manipur and Dr. Rajiv, secretary general, ICC were present among others from the Indian side at the summit.

ZYF for status quo on re-settlement
Imphal, March 07 : The Zeliangrong Youth (ZYF) has resolved that the status quo should be maintained in connection with any re-settlement activities of Naga and Kuki villages as of today.
A decision to this effect was adopted after a minute discussion on the matter during the ZYF's annual assembly held at Luanglei Apinjang, Gangluan Part-IV, Nungba sub-division on February 24, informed a press release.
The annual assembly focused on the issue relating to the proposed re-settlement of deserted Kuki community at Luanglei Apinjang village which is presently inhabited by the Zeliangrong community.
Saying that the ZYF shall always uphold its objective to protect life, land and properties of the Zeliangrong community, the meeting decided not to give or compromise on any Zeliangrong area for the proposed re-settlement of Kuki community.
The ZYF further resolved to take up special initiative to convene inter-tribes meeting of apex tribal bodies specially of Zeliangrong tribe and Kuki tribe including concerned elected MLAs of both the communities in the matter of re-settlement at Luanglei Apinjang in the earliest time.
The ZYF also condemned the firing incident of February 18 in between Duithanjang and Thanagong village of Khoupum valley between UG groups.
The annual assembly was graced by ZU vice-president G Namdon, former vice-president of ZU Adi Remmei and ZYF president Poujeng Kamei as chief guest, guest of honour and functional president respectively, added the release.

DGAR on a 3 day Manipur visit
Dimapur, March 7 : Lt. General. K S Yadava, AVSM, SM, VSM, Director General Assam Rifles accompanied by Meenakshi Yadava, president of Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association arrived in Mantripukhri on March 5 for a three days visit to Manipur. On arrival at Mantripukhri, he was received by Maj General A K Choudhary, AVSM, SM, VSM, IG AR (South). Later in the afternoon, the General along with IG AR (South) called on the Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat.
Later, the DGAR was briefed on the prevailing security situation and the developmental projects being undertaken by the Assam Rifles in Manipur by Major General AK Choudhary, AVSM,SM,VSM, IG AR (South). The DGAR decorated ten gallant soldiers with DGAR Commendation Cards in recognition of their velour and gallantry.
Later, the DGAR was briefed on the prevailing security situation and the developmental projects being undertaken by the Assam Rifles in Manipur by Major General AK Choudhary, AVSM,SM,VSM, IG AR (South). Contractors unify to pursue cause
Imphal, March 07 : A joint body of several contractors' associations has been established today. The joint body christened Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Contractors and Suppliers Association is comprised of the Manipur Hills and Plain Contractors' Association, All Manipur Public Works Department Contractors' Association, All Tribal Contractors' Association, IFCD Contractors' Association, All Manipur Electricity Department Contractors' Association, PHED Contractors' Association and the Manipur University Contractors' Association.
The joint body was primarily set up to mitigate the various problems faced by local contractors starting from the time of pursuing work orders till the stage of issuance of cheques.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here today, JAC president and special contractor Th Nodiyachand said that local contractors having been facing various vexed problems right from the stage of pursuing of work orders till the time of issuance of cheques for the last 15 years.
Lamenting that local contractors are unable to work under the prevailing situation, it has become indispensable necessity to be close either to Ministers or high ranking officials or 'able persons'.
Starting from two percent deduction for issuing work order, several UG groups and Ministers have been deducting certain percentages from the total estimated amount of the contract work.
However, it cannot be confirmed whether the deducted amounts reached the UG groups or not.
Recalling that the proscribed UNLF had declared not to deduct any percentage from contract works of estimated amount below Rs 20 lakhs, Nodiyachand disclosed that engineers have been still deducting certain percentage despite the declaration.
On the other hand, the State Government is allegedly working not to issue work orders to local contractors.
Such policy of the Government amounts to starving the local contractors, he alleged.
For a contract work of estimated amount Rs 10 lakhs, the contractor is compelled to execute the work with Rs 2/3 lakhs after all the percentages are deducted, he disclosed.
On the other hand, contractors are blacklisted when the authority thinks that the executed work lacks quality.
Because of all these problems and unfavourable conditions, contractors are facing the harsh reality where they cannot support their families.
The JAC president further appealed to the Government to issue work orders under stringent guidelines and adopt terms and conditions to facilitate issuance of work orders to local contractors.
He also appealed to all UG groups to give the practice of taking possession of contract works in the name of their project works.
